New Delhi|India|May' 2009: To maintain the eminence of technical education, Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) has given ranking to the institutions providing Graduation & Post Graduation programs affiliated under it on the basis of theory examination marks in MBA, MCA & B.Tech courses.

Academy of Business and Engineering Sciences, Ghaziabad, popularly known as ABES Engineering College has been ranked as 1st among the private colleges and 2nd amongst 103 private and govt. colleges of Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) for its MCA program. It has also been rated as 3rd among all private colleges and 5th amongst 207 private and government colleges based on result of B.Tech 1st semester theory examination. Besides, Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology, Sultanpur stood first among the govt. colleges for its M.C.A program, while Institute of Engg. and Technology, Lucknow stood first for its B. Tech program.

The ranking is a transparent process, calculated on the basis of Gross Average Intellectual attainment per student (where GAIA=Sum of marks of all the students in all subjects in theory exam in respective year/total no. of answer scripts evaluated in all subjects in theory exam in respective year) in percentage terms. The internal and practical marks of the College examinations were not considered due to their notion of such marks to be bloated with an intention to influence rankings of the institution considerably.

Today, when Private and Govt. colleges are in a close competition to prove their supremacy over each other through ratings and rankings, UPTU has provided an interface to students and parents to make an intelligent selection through the authentic rankings.

Uttar Pradesh Technical University (UPTU) was established by the Government of Uttar Pradesh on 8th May 2000 vide Act No. 1248(2)XVII-V-I-I-19-2000 Uttar Pradesh Adhiniyam Sankhya 23 of 2000. Under the University Act, 'Technical Education' includes programmes of education, research and training in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Town Planning, Pharmacy, Applied Arts & Crafts and such other programmes and areas that the central Government may in consultation with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) by notification in Gazette declare.

The University is affiliating in nature and its jurisdiction spans the entire state of U.P. in affiliating B.Tech., M.B.A., M.C.A., B.Arch., B. Pharma., B.H.M.C.T., M.Tech. and Ph.D. programmes in 238 colleges/institutions imparting graduate, postgraduate and doctoral level training in all government and private institutions located all over U.P. in engineering, technology, architecture, pharmacy, hotel management and catering technology as well as M.B.A. and M.C.A. programes.
